Meet our founder

The heart behind the mission
Every story of transformation begins with a single moment of connection. For Jesse Vea, the founder of ASIST(Assertive Street Intervention & Support Team) Society, those moments happen in the quiet hours on the street, in the difficult conversations within clinical walls, and in the persistent belief that no one is ever "too far gone."
Jesse didn't just build an organization; he built a lifeline. His journey into social services was driven by a fundamental refusal to look away from the gaps in our system where people often fall through. He saw that for those facing the harshest realities—housing instability, mental health crises, and substance use—the greatest barrier wasn’t just a lack of resources, but a lack of a dedicated advocate who would stay by their side until the job was done.
More Than Outreach—It’s a Promise.
Jesse’s leadership is rooted in radical empathy. He believes that dignity isn't something you earn; it is a human right. Whether he is helping someone secure their first piece of identification in years or advocating for a patient’s rights in a hospital corridor, his philosophy remains the same: "We meet you where you are, but we don’t leave you there."
Under Jesse’s guidance, ASIST Society has become a sanctuary of hope for many who felt forgotten. He leads a team of staff and peers not just with professional expertise, but with the heart of a servant-leader, teaching that the most powerful tool we own is the ability to truly see another person’s humanity.
A Legacy of Compassion:
While Jesse has been honoured with awards for social justice and community development, he often says that the true "wins" aren't found on a plaque. They are found in the phone call from a former client who finally has a key to their own front door, or in the relief on a mother's face when her child is finally connected to care.
"At the end of the day, we aren't just delivering services. We are holding space for hope when someone has run out of their own. Every step we take alongside someone and every breakthrough we share is a reminder that you are seen, you are valued, and you are not alone."
The Vision Forward:
Through ASIST Society, Jesse continues to fight for a world where support isn't just "available," but assertive—reaching out into the shadows to bring people back into the light. He remains dedicated to the belief that with enough persistence, compassion, and heart, we can turn a crisis into a new beginning
